Platform

Search your logs, then jump to the trace behind a line.

Logs searches and filters the log lines your services send, follows new lines as they arrive, and links each line to its trace.

What you get

Narrow down fast

Search the message text, set a minimum severity, pick a service, and add up to five log attribute filters and five resource attribute filters. Your filters are in the address, so you can share a search.

Watch it happen

Live tail follows new lines on the last 5 or 15 minutes and keeps the newest 1,000 on screen.

Land on the trace

Open a line and see the 20 lines before and after it, plus other logs from the same trace. One click takes you to the trace itself.

How it works

  1. Send logs over OpenTelemetry

The same endpoint that takes your traces takes your logs. The Connect data page has the settings.

  2. Sensitive values are masked

Authorization headers, cookies, passwords and similar keys are masked when logs arrive, and so are long card-like numbers. Add a Mask rule for anything else.

  3. Shape logs as they arrive

Admins can add up to 100 processing rules: mask a value, read JSON, add an attribute or a tag, change a severity, or drop a line. A Test button runs a rule on recent lines first.

Limits worth knowing

  • Pages of 100. Logs load 100 lines at a time, with a button for older lines.
  • Live tail is short-range. It runs only on the last 5 or 15 minutes ending now.
  • Rules apply to new logs. A processing rule changes lines that arrive after you save it, not lines already stored.
